The next Fall Mini-Session will be about Musicality!

Our third Fall Mini-Session begins on Sunday, November 12!

The class is called “Expressing Different Orchestras.” Each class will examine renditions of the same song by multiple tango orchestras. Leaders and followers will gain tools to use the figures they know to enjoy tango music on a deeper level.

P.S. Did you know we have a YouTube channel with playlists full of popular tango songs that are helpful to know? Simply listening to tango music can improve your dance experience immensely!

Tangoween 2017

Cette année, nous avons la chance d’avoir notre milonga le jour même de l’Halloween, le 31 octobre!

– Nous débuterons la milonga plus tôt que d’habitude, de 20 h jusqu’à minuit.
– Soyez prêts avec votre déguisement! Il y aura un concours du meilleur costume, un prix pour les hommes et un prix pour les femmes.
– Puisqu’il s’agit d’une évènement de semaine, nous n’offrirons pas notre habituel repas léger. Nous aurons quelques gâteries sucrées.
– Coût d’entrée: 10$ , 8$ pour les étudiants à temps plein.

Nous avons hâte voir tout le monde à cette milonga. Ne la ratez pas!

Tangoween 2017 Details

This year, we are lucky to be holding our Halloween Milonga on the 31st!

– We’ll start earlier at 8 PM and go all the way until midnight.
– Get your costumes ready! There will be a contest, and 2 prizes will be given, one to the best-dressed male and one for the best-dressed female.
– Since this is a weekday event, we won’t be offering our usual spread of food. We will have some sweet treats for any Trick or Treaters in attendance.
– Cover: $10 , $8 for full-time students

We look forward to seeing everyone there. Don’t miss out!

Action de Grâce 2017: L’horaire de nos cours changera la semaine prochaine!

L’horaire de nos cours changera la semaine prochaine pour s’ajuster avec le congé de l’action de Grâce.

Dimanche le 8 octobre
Il n’y aura pas de cours et de práctica.

Lundi le 9 Octobre
Il n’y aura pas de cours.

Mardi le 10 Octobre
“Tango avec brigitte et Francis” et notre milonga hebdomadaire auront lieu comme à l’habitude.

Mercredi le 11 October
Il n’y aura pas de cours.

La práctica du dimanche et la nouvelle mini-session ainsi que les cours du lundi et mercredi recommenceront à partir du dimanche 15 octobre.

Nous vous souhaitons une joyeuse Action de Grâce!

Thanksgiving 2017 Schedule Changes

Next week, our class schedule will change to accommodate Thanksgiving.

Sunday, October 8
No class and no práctica.

Monday, October 9
No class.

Tuesday, October 10
“Tango with brigitte and Francis” and the Weekly Milonga will take place as usual.

Wednesday, October 11
No class.

The Sunday Práctica, the next Mini-Session (topic TBA), and Monday and Wednesday classes will resume the week of October 15.

Ce 23 juillet-ci: En association avec l’ambassade de l’Uruguay, nous offrons une saveur de tango à Ottawa

L’ambassade de l’Uruguay sera l’hôte du jour de l’Uruguay dans le cadre d’ Ottawa accueille le monde. Ils nous ont invités à participer, ça sera donc un après-midi de tango à l’édifice de l’horticulture au Parc Lansdowne.

(Si vous ne le saviez pas déjà, le  tango n’est pas seulement une invention argentine. Il y a une longue histoire du tango en Uruguay et beaucoup de personnage important de l’histoire du tango, tel que Francisco Canaro, sont uruguayens. Cliquez ici  (en anglais seulement) pour lire un article comment l’Uruguay et l’Argentine ont fait équipe en  2009 pour demander que le tango obtient le statue culturel intangible de l’UNESCO.)

  • 15 h 30 á 16 h 15: Cours d’essai gratuit avec Francis et brigitte
  • 16 h 30 á 17 h 00: Mini-milonga
  • 17 h 00 á 17 h 30: Danser sur la musique “Live“ de tango du chanteur uruguayen Elbio Fernandez
  • 17 h 45 á 18 h 30: Un spectacle par les Amis de l’orchestrre du CNA pour célébrer le centenaire de “La Cumparsita”

Ça sera une journée d’immersion à la culture Uruguayenne avec de la nourriture et dégustation de vin, une clinique de soccer pendant la journée et du Candombe le soir.

Et évidemment, nous serons de retour au 317. rue Chapel pour la Práctica du dimanche à 19 h 00 comme à l’habitude.

On se verra sur la piste de danse!

Coming July 23: Teaming up with the Embassy of Uruguay to provide Ottawa a Taste of Tango

The Embassy of Uruguay will be hosting Uruguay Day as part of the Ottawa Welcomes the World initiative. They have invited us to participate, so it will be a busy afternoon of tango at the Horticulture Buildling at Lansdowne Park.

(If you didn’t already know, tango is not solely a Argentinian invention. There’s a long history of tango in Uruguay, and many important figures in tango’s history, such as Francisco Canaro, were Uruguayan. Click here to read a short article about how Uruguay and Argentina teamed up in 2009 to bid for tango’s UNESCO Cultural Intangible status.)

  • 3:30 – 4:15 PM: Free tango lesson with Francis and brigitte
  • 4:30 – 5:00 PM: A short milonga
  • 5:00 – 5:30 PM: Dance on live tango music of the uruguayan singer Elbio Fernandez
  • 6:00 – 6:30 PM: A performance by the Friends of the NAC Orchestra to celebrate the centennial of “La Cumparsita”

It will be an all-day immersion into Uruguayan culture, with food and wine tastings, a soccer clinic, and candombe later in the evening.

Of course, we will be heading back to 317 Chapel Street, and there will be a Sunday Práctica as usual at 7:00 PM.
